Second Chances is a two-person game wherein one participant acts as the “game master” while the other takes the role of the “player”. The game master’s job is to guide the player through the session, serving as the moral anchor for their decisions. The player’s job is to answer a series of questions, equip themselves with stat points that reflect their values, and tackle a series of challenges throughout the session.

The game master will create a lobby which the player then joins. Once the parameters of the session have been decided upon, the player will complete a self-assessment of their values to start the game.
Second Chances emphasizes the importance of five core categories that shape a person’s outcomes: Education, Career, Relationships, Security and Family.
Points are allocated by the player into the above categories, and then they play through ten rounds (which are representative of the next ten years of their life). In each round, they will be asked a number of questions and presented with a number of scenarios. The game master will award or deduct points from the player based on their responses. Following each round, the player will use the awarded points to increase their standing in any of the five core categories that they view as being essential to creating a satisfactory future. Then, a series of challenge cards will be drawn, presenting the player with more drastic scenarios which can only be overcome by having sufficient points allocated to the relevant category. The driving message is that making good choices allows young adults to tackle situations and create opportunities for themselves as they get older.
